Judges 9 (part 1)

A few mornings ago, I asked God where to read from and He led me to the book of Judges chapter 9.  I’ve been stuck there ever since… Jerubbaal had a son with his maidservant and they named him Abimelech.  He said to his mother’s clan, “Ask all the citizens of Shechem, ‘Which is better for you: to have all seventy of Jerubbaal’s sons rule over you, or just one man?’ Remember, I am your flesh and blood.”  All the men of Shechem agreed they would rather have one man rule them.  They gave Abimelech 70 shekels of silver and he hired reckless scoundrels.  They went to his father’s home and killed 70 of his half-brothers on his father's side but one got away.  His name was Jotham.  More tomorrow.
