Jewish Interpreters
We’ve had brilliant examples in our textbook describing how scripture can be misinterpreted or misunderstood and believed. “Old testament prophesies concerning the coming of the Messiah reveals that there were two streams of thought. One stream spoke of the deity of Christ, while the other spoke of the humanity of Christ. The Jewish interpreters of the Old Testament could not reconcile these streams. They could not understand how the Messiah could be divine, and yet also human. Thus they erred in understanding and missed the very Messiah that their Scriptures prophesied would come.” They missed the Messiah because they had a pre-conceived idea of how it would happen or what it would look like. We need to be careful when we have faith and believe for something that we don’t plan how God will do it. We pray and believe for it to come to pass and leave the details up to God.
